47 year-old Albert Espaniola, Jr. of Hilo was arrested and charged in relation to a burglary at a Kea‘au residence.

According to police, Espaniola was arrested by responding Puna Patrol officers after he was observed exiting the residence’s back door while carrying a compound bow with attached fishing reel and an internet router.

Yesterday, Espaniola made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court where his bail was maintained at $120,000.00 and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on October 13, 2025.

As the Complaint alleges, Espaniola is charged with Burglary in the First Degree and Theft in the Second Degree. Burglary in the First Degree is a class B felony offense and carries a penalty of either a ten-year prison term or four years probation and up to eighteen months in jail. Theft in the Second Degree is a class C felony offense and carries a penalty of either a five-year prison term or four years probation and up to twelve months in jail.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.
