71 year-old Robert Bradshaw recently made his initial Hilo District Court appearance via video conference from a hospital bed.

During the appearance, the Court set bail at $1,000,000 and continued the arraignment hearing to December 4.

On November 12, Prosecutors presented the case and a Hilo grand jury returned the indictment. A $1,000,000 indictment warrant was later issued.

Bradshaw, who remained in custody since first appearing in Hilo District Court on November 10, was previously held on $510,000 bail.

As the Indictment alleges, Bradshaw is charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree. Murder in the Second Degree carries a penalty of life in prison with the possibility of parole. Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree is a class B felony offense that carries a maximum penalty of a ten-year prison term.

According to police, Bradshaw threatened 64 year-old Edward Mendez with a knife before the two men engaged in a physical struggle. Bradshaw then drove his Ford E-350 Econoline van, striking Mendez and dragging him before fleeing eastbound on Kamehameha Avenue.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ah Loy.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
