The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of December 1, 2025. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting.

 

VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) —

 

1) VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 27 to 30, in the vicinity of Haunani Road and Kilauea Military Camp, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for HELCO installing new powerline poles and lines.

KANOELEHUA AVENUE (ROUTE 11) 

HILO (NIGHT WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) is possible in either direction between mile post 1 to 2, in the vicinity of  East Lanikaula Street and East Puainako Street, on Tuesday, December 2 to Wednesday, December 3 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. for maintain striping through the intersection.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

PAHALA TO NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) is possible in either direction between mile post 50 to 60, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strip, striping, and permanent markers.

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 65 to 67, in the vicinity of Kaalualu Road, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

HAWAIIAN OCEAN VIEW

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 70 to 83, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strips, new striping, and pavement markers.

PAPA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 96 to 97, in the vicinity of Kaohe Road and Haleili Road, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and mowing.

 

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

 

HAKALAU (24/7 CLOSURE)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in the northbound direction near mile post 15.3, in the vicinity of Old Mamalahoa Highway, 24/7 closure beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, December 3 through Friday, December 5, for repairs on the foundation of the Hakalau Stream Bridge. PAPAALOA TO LAUPAHOEHOE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 21 to 25, in the vicinity of Kaiuiki Road, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shoulder work.

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 56.5 to 56.7, in the vicinity of Pukalani Road and Lindsey Road, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for installing new traffic signals.

 KEAAU PAHOA ROAD (ROUTE 139)

Single lane closure on Keaau Pahoa Road (Route 139) possible in either direction between mile post 0.1 to 1.1, in the vicinity of Old Volcano Road and Keaau Pahoa Bypass Road, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shoulder work.

 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for installing new traffic signals.

SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for adjustments to road surface.

SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) is possible in either direction between mile post 18 to 21, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass and shoulder work.

 PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for painting asphalt curbs and direction arrows.
