A new traffic signal at the intersection of Waikoloa Road and Paniolo Avenue/Pua Melia Street in Waikoloa Village will start operating at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15.

Prior to becoming fully operational, the signal will begin flashing at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12 to prepare motorists for the change. During this period, the lights will flash yellow on Waikoloa Road and red on Paniolo Avenue and Pua Melia Street.

The flashing red signal should be treated as a stop sign.

For the flashing yellow signal on Waikoloa Road, motorists should proceed with caution and are advised to slow down. When turning, they should yield to traffic that have the right of way.

Message boards near the intersection will alert drivers of the flashing lights.
