The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of December 22, 2025. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting. A Holiday Lane Closure Restriction runs from Tuesday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 4. Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. There will be no lane closures on Thursday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Day.

 VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) 

 VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 27 to 30, in the vicinity of Haunani Road and Kilauea Military Camp, on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for HELCO installing new powerline poles and lines.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

PAHALA TO NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) is possible in either direction between mile post 50 to 60, on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strip, striping, and permanent markers.

HAWAIIAN OCEAN VIEW

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 70 to 83, on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strips, new striping, and pavement markers.

HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 3.5 to 4.5, in the vicinity of Kahoa Street, on Monday, December 22 to Wednesday, December 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for emergency zone work paving and striping.

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 11 to 12.1, in the vicinity of Old Mamalahoa Highway, on Monday, December 22 to Wednesday, December 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for emergency zone work paving and striping.

PEPEEKEO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 11.8 to 13.2, in the vicinity of Cane Road and Honomu Road, on Monday, December 22 to Wednesday, December 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. emergency zone work paving and striping.

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping.

SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4, on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for adjustments to the road surface.

PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for painting asphalt curbs and direction arrows.
