Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a fatal Hawaiʻi Ocean View Estates subdivision structure fire in Ocean View.

On Wednesday morning, responding HPD and HFD officers found the structure, located on the 92-9200 block of Reef Parkway, fully engulfed in flames. After firefighters extinguished the fire, a severely burned body was discovered within the residence.

Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section and inspectors from the Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation. The identity of the victim and the cause of the fire remain under investigation.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The structure and contents, with an estimated value of $40,000, were a total loss.
