The Boston Red Sox have signed left-handed starting pitcher Ranger Suárez to a five-year, $130 million contract. According to ESPN, the deal is fully guaranteed with no deferrals, opt-outs, or no-trade protection.

Suárez, 30, arrives in Boston after spending the first eight seasons of his major-league career with the Philadelphia Phillies. A former reliever, he transitioned into a full-time rotation role in 2022 and quickly developed into one of the National League’s most dependable starters. Since that shift, Suárez has logged a 3.59 ERA over 588 1/3 innings, producing results roughly 17 percent better than league average during that span.

While Suárez has dealt with minor injuries in recent seasons, he has avoided significant arm issues since an elbow concern in 2023 and has averaged 26 starts per year since becoming a starter. He has never exceeded 30 starts in a season but has consistently provided quality innings when healthy. Suárez is coming off his strongest campaign to date, posting career highs in ERA (3.20) and innings pitched (157 1/3) during the 2025 season. Suárez also recorded 151 strikeouts against 38 unintentional walks and finished with a 4.7 WAR. Over his career, he owns a 125 ERA+ and 17.8 WAR, along with a 1.48 ERA across eight postseason starts, including two in the World Series. He earned his first All-Star selection in 2024.

The Red Sox finished the 2025 season with 89 wins before being eliminated by the New York Yankees in the wild-card round.
