Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: January 12-18

During the week of January 12 through January 18, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 12 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2026, there have been 37 DUI arrests compared with 49 during the same period last year, a decrease of 24.49 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 54 major crashes so far this year, compared with 44 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 22.73 percent.

To date, there were two fatal crashes, resulting in two fatalities compared with one fatal crash, resulting in one fatality for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 100% for fatal crashes and a 100% increase for fatalities.

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
