Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: February 2-8

During the week of February 2, through February 8, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident, while three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2026, there have been 76 DUI arrests compared with 98 during the same period last year, a decrease of 22.45 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 119 major crashes so far this year, compared with 98 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 21.43 percent.

As of Feb. 8, there have been four fatal crashes, resulting in four fatalities compared with five fatal crashes, resulting in five fatalities for the same time last year. This is a decrease of 20 percent for fatal crashes and a decrease of 20 percent for fatalities.

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
