Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Statistics: March 2-8

During the week of March 2 through March 8, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2026, there have been 152 DUI arrests compared with 182 during the same period in 2025, a decrease of 16.48 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 191 major crashes so far this year, compared with 181 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 5.52 percent.

As of March 8, there have been four fatal crashes, resulting in four fatalities compared with seven fatal crashes, resulting in eight fatalities (one fatal crash reclassified to a medical condition, one died at a later date, and one had multiple deaths) for the same time last year. This is a decrease of 42.86 percent for fatal crashes and a decrease of 50.00 percent for fatalities.

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
