Hawaiʻi Island D.U.I. Stats: March 9-15

During the week of March 9, through March 15, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2026 there have been 167 DUI arrests compared with 197 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.23 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 214 major crashes so far this year, compared with 204 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 4.90 percent.

As of March  15, there have been four fatal crashes, resulting in four fatalities compared with seven fatal crashes, resulting in eight fatalities for the same time last year. This is a decrease of 42.86 percent for fatal crashes and a decrease of 50.00 percent for fatalities.

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
