31-year-old Shalton Estocado of Hilo, was arrested and charged in relation to a series of theft incidents.

According to police, Estocado was charged for the theft of the spare tire and rim from three different Jeep Wranglers in the Hilo area.

On March 11, officers conducted a traffic stop on Estocado while he was operating a Nissan Frontier. He was subsequently placed under arrest. Officers obtained a search warrant for the Nissan Frontier and later recovered a Ryobi hand-held power drill, a black fanny pack containing multiple wrenches and sockets, seven Jeep OEM rims, a glass smoking pipe, and two packets containing 2.7 grams of a substance which tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine were found within a pill container labeled, “BATUBUTNOTFORU”.

Estocado made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court on Monday afternoon. Yesterday, Estocado appeared in Hilo Circuit Court for return on an Information charge warrant. The Court maintained his bail at $160,000 and ordered him to appear for an appointment of counsel hearing on March 30.

As the Information alleges, Estocado is charged with three counts of Theft in the Second Degree, three counts of Habitual Property Crime, and two counts of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possess any amount of methamphetamine). Theft in the Second Degree, Habitual Property Crime, and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree are all class C felony offenses and carry a penalty of either a five-year prison term or four years probation (five years for Habitual Property Crime) and up to one year in jail. The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Patrick Muñoz.
