Governor David Ige announced Monday at his COVID-19 briefing that starting this Wednesday, April 1, there is a mandatory 14-day self quarantine for anybody flying interisland.  Governor Ige said there will be exemptions for essential workers, including the flight crews.  Some health care workers will also be exempt, but they will be asked to wear Personal Protective Equipment while working.  Other than their work, the health care workers will also be required to self-quarantine for 14 days.   A mandatory 14-day quarantine already exists for people coming in from out of state.

Gov. Ige said there will be more detail about who might be exempt from the interisland quarantines coming soon.

Gov. Ige acknowledged that this is an economically trying time for everybody in the state, and that it is particularly affecting for some businesses.   There are federal relief funds on the way targeted, as U.S. Congressman Ed Case said in the briefing, to the needs of Hawaii’s businesses and population.  He and U. S. Senator Brian Schatz provided more detail in a briefing earlier in the day with the State House.
