The Friday morning,  April 17, 5:38 a.m. Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard:

World:  2,188,194 cases confirmed, 147,632 deaths

U.S.: 672,293 cases confirmed, 33,325 deaths

The Dashboard is not reporting recovered cases.

On Thursday, President Trump and the White House COVID-19 Task Force released a set of guidelines for reopening the country.

One of the key recommendations before states or municipalities reopen is adequate testing.  So far, more than 3.4 million tests have been done in the United States, which has an estimated population of 331 million.  In Hawaii, according to State Department of Health, 21,682 tests have been run with 539 positive, 21,104 negative, and 38 results inconclusive.  Around 1% of Hawaii’s population has been testing, and around 1.5% of the country’s population.

Health officials at all levels say isolation and social distancing are the key to stemming the rapid spread of COVID-19.  Hawaii is under a “stay at home” order through April 30.  In New York State, which has the most cases in the country at just over 222,000, Governor Andrew Cuomo has extended their “stay at home” order through May 15.

Hawaii’s confirmed case count stands at 541, with 167 active cases of COVID-19 known in the state.  State Department of Health says Hawaii Island has 41, with 11 active cases.  However, Thursday afternoon State DOH revealed that there is a 13th victim associated with the McDonald’s Kona (Kona Commons and Walmart locations) outbreak and it’s not clear if that victim is already in the count.  One of the McDonald’s victims was flown to O’ahu for treatment.
