The Monday morning, April 27 Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard as of 6:30 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:   3,002,303    Worldwide deaths:  208,131

U. S. cases:  972,969                      U.S. deaths:  55,118

Hawaii State Department of Health report on Sunday, April 26, at noon:

Hawaii cases:  606                          Hawaii deaths:  14

Hawaii Island cases:  70

**In Hawaii, 488 people are reported as recovered.  Sunday’s report added 2 to the State’s case count, both minors, one on the Big Island, one on O’ahu.

On Monday morning, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said his state’s hospitalization rate is flat, but he is looking to get to a decline in hospitalizations, cases, and deaths.     New York’s State Department of Public Health says as of Sunday, the state has 291,996 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 17,303 deaths — both about 1/3 of the national totals.

Nationwide, more than a dozen states are beginning to reopen some businesses.  Experts say testing and contact tracing are critical to understanding when and how to do that.

The White House has announced it will be issuing additional guidelines on how and when to reopen businesses.

Over the weekend, Dr. Debra Birx and Dr. Anthony Fauci of the White House COVID-19 Task Force talked more about testing, in a story detailed here.
