The new case count for the state is low, at 2, bringing Hawaii to a total of 609 cumulative cases.   Around 82% of those infected have recovered–505.  The state has 16 deaths–none new in today’s report.

Both new cases are in Maui County.  One is a resident of Lana’i — the first person from Lana’i known to be infected –and is in treatment on Maui and will be staying on the island of Maui, according to State Department of Health, “for the interim.”  State Department of Health says the resident had been hospitalized for an extended time on Maui, and had been transported there in early March for a condition not related to coronavirus.  They say the patient initially tested negative for COVID-19, but a recent test came back positive.

There is one cluster on Maui at Maui Memorial Medical Center, which now includes 38 staff and 20 patients which DOH say they are investigating as “potentially associated with the cluster.”  On the Big Island, the cluster associated with the 3 Kailua-Kona McDonald’s restaurants numbers at least 36, both employees and family members.  The last update on the McDonald’s cluster from DOH was on Saturday.

Case counts by county:  O’ahu, 396 cases with 354 recovered;  Maui County, 115 with 80 recovered;  Hawaii County, 70 with 51 recovered;  Kauai County, 21 with 20 recovered.

Lt. Governor Josh Green, M.D., a practicing emergency room physician, credits the “stay at home” orders, social isolation, masking when out, and staying 6 feet away from others, as does Dr. Bruce Anderson, Director of State Department of Health.
