The Wednesday morning, May 20,  Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard at 6:32 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 4,946,175     Worldwide deaths:  324,766

U.S. cases: 1,532,974    U.S. deaths: 92,149

The U.S. case count increase over Tuesday is 14,132, lower than the average of just over 23,000 for the last 16 days.  The increase in the number of deaths, 1,155, is also lower than the average of 1,300 for the past 10 days.

In Hawaii, the curve has flattened, with 641 cases and no new deaths over the 17 previously reported for more than 2 weeks.  As of yesterday, the State had 63 active cases.   Hawaii Island has had 3 new cases reported in the past week, and State Department of Health has not advised whether all 3 are related.  Hawaii Island’s cumulative case count is 78.

Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim announced that today, beach parks in the county will reopen.  Get the details and conditions here.  Governor David Ige has provided a plan for reopening the economy, with the Mayors on each island to decide when and how to let specific businesses reopen, subject to the Governor’s approval.

On O’ahu, which has had the most cases and has begun allowing businesses to reopen, Mayor Kirk Caldwell and his team discussed their plan for O’ahu to ramp up both COVID-19 testing and antibody testing, so they can monitor the situation as businesses open and as, eventually, tourists return.
