The Tuesday morning, June 2 Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard at 6:33 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:   6,318,040     Worldwide deaths:   376,885

U.S. cases:  1,817,785    U.S. deaths:  105,475

In the U.S., the case count increased by 20,328 since Monday, and the death toll rose by 891.  Both the case count increase and the death toll increase are slightly below the average for the previous 11 days.

In Hawaii, no new cases were reported Monday, leaving the state with 652 cumulative cases.   There have been 17 deaths.   Gov. David Ige announced Monday afternoon there will be no more 14-day quarantine for interisland travelers effective Saturday, June 16, although procedures for interisland travel will change to include screenings, temperature checks, and all passengers providing information on their plans in case State Department of Health needs to follow up in case the passengers were exposed to COVID-19.

Gov. Ige said he will make an announcement next week about travel from out of state.  Currently the 14-day quarantine extends through June 30, though he has said he will extend it.  He said the state needs to be cautious about incoming travelers, citing California’s recent high daily counts.  As of this morning, the California Department of Health COVID-19 website shows the state with 115,032, with a one-day add of 3,128.  Earlier Monday, Gov. Ige said he’d like to defer welcoming back visitors from high COVID count states, and focus more on tourism from states with less COVID-19 such as Alaska and Utah.  Once international travel reopens, he’d like to encourage travelers from low COVID count countries like Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and Japan.
