How does Hawaii compare to the country as a whole relative to testing for COVID-19?  Looking at the numbers as of Friday, June 19, 2020:

The U.S. Census estimates the April 1, 2020 population at 308.7 million.  According to the CDC as of June 19, the number of tests conducted in the U.S. is 26.8 million, with 2.7 million positive tests.  That’s about 10% of those tested.   About 8% of the total estimated population has been tested.

The U.S. Census Bureau population estimate for Hawaii as of April 1, 2020, is 1,360,301.  According to the State Department of Health on Friday, June 19, 66,734 tests have been conducted, with 787 positive.   Around 1% of the tests have been positive.  Roughly 5% of Hawaii’s population has been tested.  Hawaii continues to have one of the lowest infection rates in the country.

The State Department of Health says local laboratories can run at least 3,000 tests a day.

Numbers are approximate because nationwide and in the state, some individuals may have been tested multiple times.
