The Hawaii Island Food Basket will distribute food today at Cooper Center in Volcano starting at 10 a.m.  Anybody who needs the food is invited.

Other food distribution sites this week include  Ho’okena Elementary School on Thursday (starting 10 a.m.),  Friday at Papa’aloa Community Center (starting 10 a.m.), and Friday at Honoka’a Sports Complex (starting 1 p.m.)

Food Basket Executive Director Kristin Frost Albrecht asks those coming to have space in their trunk or back seat for the food.  National Guard troops and other volunteers will put the food into the vehicles.   Frost Albrecht also suggests that bringing a cooler for refrigerated items is a good idea. The food drop will go for two hours or until the food supply is depleted.  She says the Food Basket will continue to do the food drops until they’re no longer needed.

Below is the schedule for the rest of June:

Volcano | Cooper Center | Wednesday, June 24 | 10am

Hookena | Hookena Elementary School | Thursday, June 25 | 10am

Papaaloa | Papaaloa Community Center Gym | Friday, June 26 | 10am

Honokaa | Honokaa Sports Complex and Skate Park | Friday, June 26 | 1pm

Pahala | Kau District Gym | Tuesday, June 30 | 10am

Photo is cars lined up to get food at Old Kona Airport Gym lot on May 21.
