Vince Carter confirmed that he has retired from the NBA after a 22-year career. 43-year-old Carter announced his retirement on the “Winging It With Vince Carter” podcast, saying he is “officially done playing basketball professionally.” After signing a one-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks last year, Carter announced that 2019-20 would be his final season in the NBA. But since the NBA season was suspended March 11 because of the coronavirus pandemic, he had not addressed his playing status.

Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement: “Vince Carter has made an indelible impact on the NBA with his remarkable skill and enduring commitment” calling Carter “a true ambassador of the game.”

Carter is 19th all-time in NBA history in scoring and was the league’s Rookie of the Year in 1999. He averaged 16.7 points per game and played for eight different teams and is considered one of greatest dunkers in basketball history,
