VFW Post 3380 is still holding its “Salute to our Veterans 5K”, but this year, it will be a virtual event.
As the organizers say:
- Yep, you can still honor veterans on July 4 and all year long!
- Yep, we are still holding the race!
- Nope, we can’t gather in a group to run
- Yep, this years race will be virtual
- Nope, that doesn’t mean it’s a video game
- Yep, you still get a 2020 A Salute to Our Veterans Hilo Bay 5K shirt
- Yep, you can still honor your special veteran.
- Yep, you can still sign up with your group and compete for largest group.
For this years race, you will run or walk 5K on your own and keep track of your time. When your registration is confirmed, you will get a link to enter your time and post any pictures you want to share.
Proceeds will use to keep the doors open for the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 3380 so it can continue to serve veterans, even during this COVID-19 crisis. So far, around $70,000 has been raised.
Registration is open, register by July 15 to receive a shirt! All those donating $25 or more will receive a commemorative T-shirt available approximately July 31. Pickup times to be arranged.
