Gov. David Ige has issued the formal order he discussed on Thursday which reinstates the mandatory 14-day self quarantine for anybody traveling to a neighbor island–Hawaii County, Kaua’i County, and the islands of Maui County and Kalawao County (Kalaupapa, on Molokai).

The order also reinforces that anybody who has an “exemption” from the 14-day mandatory quarantine because they are performing a critical function are only allowed to travel between their place of lodging and their place of work, during which time they must wear Personal Protective Equipment (i.e. a mask, for example), but that is the only time they are allowed to leave quarantine.  The exemption does not allow those exempted to go to restaurants or social events.

Gov. Ige issued the order as a response to the sharp increase in COVID-19 cases on O’ahu, which as of today, has around 1,556 active cases.  The state now has 3,115  cumulative  COVID-19 cases, with 1,617 active cases on all islands.  Hawaii Island right now, according to State Department of Health, has 8 active COVID-19 cases.

Anybody who is requesting an exemption from the quarantine must request such at covidexemption@hawaii.gov
