The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Friday, August 14, at 7:27 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:  20,995,929      Worldwide deaths:  760,889

U.S. cases:   5,269,868      U.S. deaths: 167,528

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide cases increased by 289,553 in the last 24 hours.  The worldwide death toll in the past two days increased by 9,856.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 46,737 cases in the last 24 hours, and reported deaths attributed to COVID-19 have increased by 1,045.  This is a lower daily case increase than the past four days, and may indicate stability in case growth–but one day is not a pattern.  Daily deaths, loss of people to COVID-19, continue to grow.

On Thursday,the  State Department of Health reported 355 new cases of COVID-19, with the state now having 4,312 cumulative cases and around 2,556 active cases.  The State now has 40 deaths from the disease.  The latest death was a 44-year-old man on O’ahu.

As of yesterday’s report, O’ahu had 2,475 active cases out of 3,900 total cases.  The Big Island had 18 active cases yesterday, and according to Lt. Gov. Josh Green, that included one patient hospitalized on this island in the Intensive Care Unit.  In Thursday’s Gov. David Ige press conference, Lt. Gov Green, an emergency room doctor, gave an update on the state’s hospital capacity and said that so far, the state is not at capacity but the rise in cases is concerning and the hospital capacity could be exceeded if cases continue to rise.

He and all the health and government officials continuously repeat the mantra to wear a mask, stay distant from others, and wash hands frequently.
