The City and County of Honolulu, in the effort to test as many O’ahu residents as possible for COVID-19, are planning to close the H-3 Freeway next Tuesday, Sept. 1 and Thursday, Sept. 3, and establishing testing sites for cars traveling in both the Halawa-bound and Honolulu-bound directions.

There will be lanes free for emergency vehicles, but otherwise, all lanes will be devoted to testing on those days between 7:30 a.m.

On Tuesday, Mayor Kirk Caldwell and U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams announced the mass testing program for O’ahu (though Pahoa Pharmacy on the Big Island is also doing testing as part of the program).  The goal is to test 5,000 people a day, to reach at least 70,000, because of the surge of the coronavirus in the state, especially on O’ahu.
