According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 33,399 cases in the last 24 hours.  In that time,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 421.

As of Sunday afternoon, the state had 10,700 total cases, with just over 7,000 active.

On Sunday, the Big Island added 16 cases.  As of Sunday afternoon, the Big Island has 587 total cases, with around 270 active.  The daily case counts for Hawaii County have decreased–during the first five days of September, daily increases ranged from 17 to 35, and over the past week, they’ve ranged from 6 to 21.

The worst news for the Big Island is that 13 people have died from COVID-19, twelve who were residents at the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home and one other community member.  As of Sunday afternoon, 18 people were hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center with COVID-19, 4 of them from the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home.

Health officials, Mayor Harry Kim, and County Council members continue to urge people on the island to continue wearing masks, distancing, and washing their hands.
