On Sunday, the Big Island added 16 cases.  As of Sunday afternoon, the Big Island has 587 total cases, with around 270 active.  The daily case counts for Hawaii County have decreased–during the first five days of September, daily increases ranged from 17 to 35, and over the past week, they’ve ranged from 6 to 21.

The worst news for the Big Island is that 13 people have died from COVID-19, twelve who were residents at the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home and one other community member.  As of Sunday afternoon, 18 people were hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center with COVID-19, 4 of them from the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home.
