The Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area (formerly the Mauna Kea Recreation Area) will be closed today from 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for vector control operations.  Dustun Gomes, Maintenance Supervisor, said they’ll be spraying for ants and other insects.

Gomes said there is a close alternate location for restrooms, which is on the Mauna Loa side of the Mauna Kea Access Road, at the hunter station check in.    The Mauna Kea Access Road is about 6 miles towards Hilo, or East, from the Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area.   Gomes said those portable luas are always available for public access.
