Big Island has 51 new cases–highest ever, most in state

The Big Island recorded 51 new cases of COVID-19 today, the largest daily count the island has had and the highest number of new cases in the state, surpassing even O’ahu.  That brings the island’s total to 1,221, with 348 active.  This morning, Hawaii County Civil Defense reported there are 10 people with COVID-19 in the Big Island’s three hospitals.  The Big Island has lost 40 people to COVID-19.

Statewide today, the Department of Health reports a total of 121 new COVID-19 cases.  O’ahu added 48, Maui County added 18, Kaua’i added 1, and 2 are in out-of-state Hawaii residents.

There have been 212 deaths confirmed in the state, with only 28 of the Big Island’s 40 deaths counted.

Deaths: 0

 

Maui County

Total Cases: 497
Released from Isolation: 377
Required Hospitalization: 59
Deaths: 18

 

Out of state

Total Cases: 54
Released from Isolation: 0
Required Hospitalization: 2
Deaths: 1
