The State Department of Health has confirmed 83 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the state’s total to 15,154 with approximately 3,111 active cases.

The state is reporting 219 deaths.

O’ahu has 53 new cases, and there are 3 new cases in Hawaii residents who are out of state and 1 new case on Kaua’i.   There are no new cases reported today on Moloka’i, Maui, or Lana’i.

The Big Island has 26 new cases of COVID-19.  The island’s total is 1,300, with approximately 349 active cases.  Hawaii County Civil Defense says 10 are hospitalized on our island.  A total of 65 people on the island have required hospitalization because of COVID-19.

Hawaii County is sponsoring free testing for those on the island.    Recently they did spot testing at residential housing units in Waikoloa and North Kona, plus testing at Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home.   Monday there is COVID-19 testing at Keauhou Shopping Center from 9 til noon, and at Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium from 9 til noon.    No symptoms are needed to get a test, and with 40% of the people with COVID-19 having minor or no symptoms, the County is urging people to get tested.  Bring your insurance card, but there is no copay, and insurance is not required to get tested.

The State is reporting the island has 31 deaths from COVID, but it’s known there is a lag between the island’s hospitals or care facilities reporting deaths and the State DOH confirming.   The deaths reported by facilities on the island number 48, as follows:

  • Kona Community Hospital — 4
  • Hilo Medical Center –7
  • Life Care Center of Hilo –10
  • Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home–27
