Senator Mazie K. Hirono announced that Hawaii is set to receive $12,937,390 in grant funding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care Program. According to a press release from Senator Hirono’s office, funding will be distributed to service providers across the state.

“The coronavirus pandemic has made providing services to those experiencing homelessness more challenging and costly. This funding will provide vital support to organizations across Hawaii as they work to slow the spread of coronavirus by providing housing and services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness,” Senator Hirono said.

Hawaii’s Continuum of Care programs play a role in distributing and coordinating federal resources to homeless service providers, and administering the state’s coordinated entry system, which provides leasing and rental assistance, rapid rehousing, transitional and permanent supportive housing.
