hilo stolen credit card surveilance

Hawai‘i Island police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying two males who were recently caught on video surveillance making fraudulent charges on credit cards in Hilo.

The incident stems from a motor vehicle break-in that occurred on Thursday, March 11, 2021, near Onomea Bay in Pāpa‘ikou.  South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a report that multiple vehicles had been broken into with several items removed from them. The stolen items included back packs, purses, wallets, personal identification cards, credit cards, a MacBook computer, an Apple iPhone, two Apple iPad’s, and various articles of clothing.

In the course of investigating the vehicle break-ins, it was discovered that purchases were charged to one of the stolen credit cards at a retail store in Hilo. Officers were able to obtain video surveillance footage of the two men who used the credit cards. They are described as being in their 20s with both men having brown hair and unknown height/weight. One of men has a Mohawk style haircut.

Hawaiʻi County Police are asking anyone who might have further information regarding this investigation to call Officer Jessie Welch at (808) 935-3311 or email jessie.welch@hawaiicounty.gov.
