A 60-year-old Kea‘au man, positively identified as Ray Allen Riveira Sr., died following a single-vehicle collision in Ka‘ū on Saturday, April 10, 2021,   The collision occurred .3 miles west of the 68.5 mile marker on Highway 11.

Hawaiʻi County police determined that an unknown year blue Harley-Davidson motorcycle heading east drove off the right shoulder of the roadway and down a slight embankment, striking several rocks.

Riveira was transported to Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Officer Severo Ines at (808) 326-4646 ext. 229 or by email at mailto:severo.ines@hawaiicounty.gov.
