Big Island Police Report 13 New D.U.I. Arrests

During the week of June 7, 2021, through June 13, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.  Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.  One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2021, there have been 543 DUI arrests compared with 384 during the same period in 2020, an increase of 41.4 percent.

There have been 352 major accidents so far this year compared with 367 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.1 percent.

To date, there were 11 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities, compared with 9 fatal crashes, resulting in 9 fatalities for the same time last year.  This represents an increase of 22.2 percent for fatal crashes, and 22.2 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
