(AP) — Officials in Hawaiʻi have approved a plan to reduce the number of tourists on its most populous island. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports a management plan created by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority aims to manage the number of tourist accommodations on Oahu, seek land use and zoning changes and review airport policies. The agency’s planning director says if residents are not happy with the number of tourists on the island, then visitors will not have a good experience. The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority’s president says clamping down on illegal accommodations is a priority. The plan also calls for a tourism fee that will support natural resources.
