As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, Queen Lili‘uokalani Canoe Race officials announced that participation in the 2021 race will be limited exclusively to Big Island paddlers. The decision was made amid public health concerns as well as to ensure the future integrity of the race.

“The decision to limit participation weighs heavy on all our hearts as we come to terms with respecting public health concerns. To paddlers around the world, we ask you to stay safe, healthy and for your patience and understanding,” said Kai ‘Opua Canoe Club President Doug Vera Cruz in a press release.
