Pohakuloa Training Center

The U.S. Army at Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) is offering “ewe only” hunting for local enthusiasts with valid PTA hunting permits.  The planned hunts are on the following dates, from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day:

August 21-22, 2021 – Ahi Hunting Unit

August 28-29, 2021 – Hunu’ula Hunting Unit

Reservations open on iSportsman at 6 p.m. the day before the hunt. The access point for the Ahi Hunting Unit is at mile marker 38.5 on Daniel K. Inouye Highway and the access point for the Humu’ula Hunting Unit is across from the Mauna Kea State Recreation Area.

Lottery-administered hunts will also be permitted intermittently throughout the season. Lottery status will not be impacted by reservations or check-ins to non-lottery hunts.

Permits for the Pohakuloa Training Area 2021-22 hunting season are now available for purchase on the iSportsman website, https://pta.isportsman.net/ with a credit card only.

This season, the U.S. Army’s Natural Resources Program at PTA are taking opportunities to manage the over-population through the hunting program, and will focus on improving natural resources conditions across the landscape, including reducing sheep density in the Humu’ula and Ahi hunting units. The over-grazing has caused significant damage to the vegetation in those areas. This will be accomplished through public archery hunting, which is targeted at ewes.  Ewe-only hunts will not be subject to the lottery system. Reservations will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

iSportsman remains online and hunters are REQUIRED to use it to check-in and out of hunting areas for all hunts, unless otherwise noted.

For questions regarding the hunt or iSportsman, please call Brian Leo at (808)315-1545 or visit the PTA Hunting Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/HuntPTA/.
