The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory beginning on the morning of Friday, October 8, 2021 the evening of until Saturday, October 9, 2021 for the leeward side of Hawaiʻi Island from Kohala to Ka`u.  Downslope winds through Kohala, Kona, and Ka`u could become accelerated.

A Wind Advisory means sustained winds of at least 30 MPH, gusts of 50 MPH expected.  Winds this strong can down trees, lift canopies, damage awnings, and make driving difficult and dangerous.

During the advisory residents are asked to take the following precautions:

  • Secure outdoor items such as canopies, trash cans, and chairs before nightfall.
  • Be aware of downed trees and power disruptions.
  • Stay clear of downed utility poles and lines.
  • Report downed lines to authorities.
  • Motorists should drive with caution and be aware that road closures may occur without notice.
