Hawai‘i Island police are requesting the public’s assistance for information regarding an agricultural theft that occurred in Hilo.

On Thursday, October 7, 2021, Hilo Patrol Officers responded to a facility off Mamalahoa Highway in the Wainaku area where they discovered two men in a vehicle with over 600 pounds of bananas.  The bananas were recently picked and the men did not have a bill of sale or receipt for transport. The two suspects were identified and the bananas were recovered, however the owners of the produce remain unknown.

Police ask anyone with information about this theft to contact Officer Jonathan Masutani at (808) 961-2213, or via email at jonathan.masutani@hawaiicounty.gov.
