The Hawai‘i County Police Department is asking the public to provide any helpful information regarding a school burglary that took place in upper Puna on Monday, October 18.

Puna Patrol officers responded to a report of a burglary at a school in the Volcano area. Staff reported that a break-in that left a number electronic items missing occurred sometime between 7:00 p.m., Sunday October 17, 2021, and 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2021.

During the course of investigation, officers determined that suspect(s) pried open a classroom door, taking 11 laptops and two video projectors valued at over $4,300. The suspect(s) also attempted to pry open a storage trailer but were unsuccessful.

Investigators say it appears that the suspect(s) knew the layout of the premises.

Police ask that anyone with information about the robbery to contact Officer Dwight Walker III at (808) 965-2716, or call the police department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311.
