Hawaiʻi Island DUI Statistics: October 18-24

During the week of October 18, 2021, through October 24, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

Thus far in 2021, there have been 864 DUI arrests compared with 802 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.7 percent.  There have been 647 major accidents so far in 2021 compared with 633 during the same period in 2020, an increase of 2.2 percent.

To date, there were 21 fatal crashes, resulting in 21 fatalities, compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 61.5 percent for fatal crashes, and 61.5 percent for fatalities.
