The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind and Blizzard Warning for the Summits of Hawaiʻi Island for this weekend and a Flood Watch for the State Big Island through Monday, December 6.  Widespread heavy rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, and damaging winds are forecast, as wet weather conditions continue for Hawaiʻi Island through next week.

Summit roads could be closed without notice due to the High Wind and Blizzard Warnings for the Summits of Hawaiʻi Island.

Due to the Flood Watch, conditions are favorable for flash flooding and the following are issued:

• All Residents in flood prone areas are asked to remain alert for flooding conditions and to take this time to address any flooding concerns.
• Be aware that road closures may occur without notice.
• Do not attempt to cross flowing water; turn around don’t drown.
• Be on the alert for malfunctioning traffic signals. Treat flashing traffic lights as a four-way stop.
• Heavy rainfall and ponding can cause poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions.
If lightning is a threat, the safest place to be is indoors.

Information regarding weather changes will be announced when they become available.
