Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of March 14

The Department of Transportation has announced a number of lane closures throughout Hawaiʻi Island during the week of March 14.  Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  Below is a detailed list of scheduled roadwork and maintenance:

 

KUAKINI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

KEAUHOU

Single lane closure on Kuakini Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 118 and 119, Kuakini Highway and Hawaii Belt Road, on Tuesday, March 15 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and mowing.

 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 19 and 20, Volcano Road and Omeka Road, on Tuesday, March 15 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching, tree trimming and mowing work.

HONAUNAU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 86 and 87, Old Mamalahoa Highway and Ohana Road, on Tuesday, March 15 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

 

HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile marker 13.8, near Kolekole Beach Park, through Friday, March 18, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for bridge repair work. 

HONOMU (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

HONOMU

Right lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in the southbound direction near mile marker 15.4, Old Mamalahoa Highway, on Monday, March 14 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for Hakalau Stream Bridge rehabilitation and testing.

NINOLE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 19 and 20, Hanamalo Lane and Hawaii Belt Road, on Tuesday, March 15 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work. 

PAHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile markers 0.0 and 3, Hawaii Belt Road and Keaau-Pahoa Road, on Monday, March 14 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for installation of new traffic signal indicators.

 

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction near mile marker 15.4, Alaili Road, on Monday, March 14 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement and guardrail improvements.

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3 and 4, near Saddle Road, on Tuesday, March 15 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for landscaping and shoulder work.

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3.9 and 6.9, Saddle Road and Cross Island Road, on Monday, March 14 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for shoulder widening, installation of rumble strips and other safety improvements.

AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) 

KAMUELA TO HAWI

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) in both directions between mile markers 1 and 15, Kawaihae Road and Kapaa Park Road, on Tuesday, March 15 through Friday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for landscaping and shoulder work.
