Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced 57 year-old Gilbert Jimenez of Hilo was arrested and charged for possession and the attempted distribution of methamphetamine after Area I Vice Section officers executed a narcotic search warrant at an Osorio Lane residence in Hilo on March 18, 2022.

As the Complaint alleges, Jimenez, who has two prior felony convictions, was charged with 5 counts of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possess any amount of methamphetamine, amphetamine, and/or oxycodone) and a single count each of Attempted Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree (engaged in conduct which constituted a substantial step in the distribution of any amount of methamphetamine), Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia, and Ownership or Possession of Ammunition Prohibited.

Attempted Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree and Ownership or Possession of Ammunition Prohibited are both class B felony offenses which carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

The investigation was handled by the Area I Vice Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ah Loy.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty
