On Monday, the Colorado Rockies announced that they have agreed to a six-year contract extension worth $70M with third baseman Ryan McMahon. The deal will take McMahon four years into his scheduled free agency.

The 27-year-old McMahon took over at third base for the Rockies after they traded Nolan Arenado to the Cardinals last season. In his first full season, McMahon was good for 13 defensive runs saved, ranking him as the best third baseman in the majors.

McMahon became one of the Rockies’ top sluggers, with 47 home runs in his past two full seasons (2019 and 2021).  Rockies manager Bud Black said of McMahon: “with Mac, where he is now, there’s maturity, there’s service time, there’s an understanding of what it means to be a major-league player. My advice to Mac is, just be yourself. Be who you are. Go about it the right way every day.”
