2022 marks the 41st anniversary of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (“NCVRW”), a nationwide event designed to remember crime victims and survivors, and to honor those in our community committed to serving victims.  The theme of this year’s event is “RIGHTS, ACCESS, EQUITY, for all victims.”

The Hawaiʻi County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney (the office) will host programs, coordinate awareness campaigns, and facilitate community outreach to support and help victims of crime in the community.  A detailed list of this week’s events can be found below:

At 11am on Monday, April 25, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney will host a resource event within the West Hawai‘i Civic Center. As part of the Peace Garden project, the public will have an opportunity to paint a rock in honor of loved ones who have lost their lives due to crime. These rocks will be displayed within the Office’s Kona Peace Garden. The Office will also be displaying the “Clothesline Project,” which is a visual display of t-shirts designed and decorated by victims of crimes committed here on Hawai‘i Island.

Between Wednesday April 27 through Friday April 30 from 11am-1pm,  the Office will be coordinating resource table presentations to provide victims of crime with important information on available community resources. Hawai‘i County Police Department officers will be sharing information on how police assist victims of crime at the Ka‘u Farmer’s Market in Na‘alehu, on Thursday at the Hamakua Heritage Center in Honoka‘a, and on Friday at the Parker Ranch Center Food Court in Waimea.

On Friday, April 29th at 11:00 a.m., the Office will be hosting an event at the Hilo Peace Garden, located outside of the Prosecutor’s Hilo Office, within the Aupuni Center. Informational booths and exhibits will be on display and the public will also have the opportunity to participate in decorating a memorial rock for the Hilo Peace Garden.
