On Saturday, Representative Kai Kahele announced his run for Governor of Hawaiʻi during an event in Hilo.

“I have dedicated my life to serving the people of Hawaiʻi, and if given the honor to serve as your governor, I will continue the mission,” Kahele said Saturday.

Kahele referred to his campaign as grass-roots and in that vain, the campaign will not be accepting single donations greater than $100.

Prior to his role as U.S. Representative, Kahele worked as an airline pilot and state senator.

Other Democrats running for Governor include Lt. Gov. Josh Green and former first lady Vicky Cayetano.
