Hawaiʻi County Lane Closures: Week of August 1

The Department of Transportation has announced a number of lane closures throughout Hawaiʻi Island during the week of August 1, 2022.  Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  Below is a detailed list of scheduled roadwork and maintenance:

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 60 and 63.5, vicinity of Niu Street, Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for mowing with side arm.

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 107 and 110, Rabbit Hill Road and Napoopoo Road, on Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for tree trimming and vegetation control.

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

HAKALAU (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Nanue Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/blog/2022/07/29/kolekole-bridge-weight-restriction-will-be-lifted-at-noon-friday-july-29/ for the latest update.

OOKALA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 30 and 31, vicinity of Ookala Road and Niupea Homestead Road, Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for mowing with side arm and mulching.

 KALANIANAOLE AVENUE (ROUTE 19) 

KEAUKAHA

Single lane closure on Kalanianaole Avenue (Route 19) possible in either direction between Kamehameha Avenue and Kauhane Avenue, nightly from 7 p.m. Monday, August 1, through 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, for the Kalanianaole Avenue Reconstruction.  KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD/ PAHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile marker 2 and 4, vicinity of Opukahala Street and Old Government Road, on Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for vegetation cutting. 

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction near mile marker 15.4, Alaili Road, on Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement and guardrail improvements.

 OLD KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD (ROUTE 139) 

KEAAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Old Keauu-Pahoa Road (Route 139) possible in either direction between mile marker 0 and 1.2, Volcano Road to Keaau-Pahoa Road, on Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for mechanical mowing and shoulder restoration.

 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

WAIKOLOA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3.9 and 6.9, Saddle Road and Cross Island Road, on Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for shoulder widening, installation of rumble strips and other safety improvements.

WAIKOLOA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 9.7 and 12.2, vicinity of Waikoloa Road, on Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for resurfacing.

 AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) 

KAWAIHAE

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) possible in either direction between mile markers 5 and 8, Kohala Ranch Road and vicinity of Kaupalaoa, Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for vegetation trimming and shoulder restoration.
