53 year-old Robert Domen of Pahoa was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of
methamphetamine.

The case stems from an August 7, 2021 traffic stop where police approached Domen for operating a Honda Civic with illuminated blue lights.

Following his arrest for Driving Without a License and Blue Lights Prohibited, police determined that Domen was in possession of nearly two ounces of methamphetamine.

On August 12, 2022, Domen pleaded “Guilty” to a single count of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree. Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree is a class B felony offense which carries a maximum penalty of a ten years in prison.

The case was handled by Officer Sybastian Keltner, South Hilo Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department and prosecuted by Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen.

“Methamphetamine continues to be one of the most dangerous narcotics plaguing our
community and families on Hawai‘i Island,” said Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen in a statement. Waltjen continued,  “Our Office will continue to work with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to hold offenders, like Domen, accountable for their actions. It’s time that law enforcement, prosecutors, and our community unite to work together to take back Hawai‘i Island and make it a safer and better place to live.”
