UH Hilo fifth-year senior second baseman Trinity Favela was named Pacific West Conference Softball Defender of the Year.

In the Vulcans’ 27 PacWest Conference contests, Favela held a 1.000 fielding percentage on 69 putouts and 60 assists. The ‘Ewa Beach native was also involved in 13 of the team’s 19 total double plays during the conference season. Overall, Favela contributed to 19 of the team’s 28 total, which ranked No. 2 in all of the NCAA Division II — ranked No. 1 at 0.68 double plays per game.

During conference play, she had the 17th-most chances (129) with the seventh-most assists (60) and 17th-most putouts (69), and was the only non-catcher or non-first baseman within those top seven or top 17 without a defensive error.

Favela, who started her collegiate career at Saint Martin’s before sitting out the last three years, finished the final 33 games of her career without a single error in 153 chances. She was the only Vulcan to receive any All-PacWest distinction.
