Hawaiʻi County Police identified 82-year-old Stuart S. Dunn as the elderly Kailua-Kona man who died following a single bicycle crash in North Kona.

On May 21, responding police officers determined that a silver Dean Titanium Road bicycle was heading west on Hinalani Street on the right shoulder and crashed. Dunn was transported to the Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police do not believe that impairment is a factor in the crash.

An autopsy was conducted to determine the exact cause of death and investigators are awaiting final results.

The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Officer Dayson Taniguchi at (808) 326-4646, ext. 229, or email dayson.taniguchi@hawaiicounty.gov.
